I was a little surprised to see the long list of items for BRAW that can be added to column list view

and there's even more.

How does this work? Is this for ProRes RAW recordings of BRAW cameras, or something else?

Good question, because right now you can't import native BRAW files into FCP. However, you can import them via Color Finale Transcoder, which converts them into the ProRes version of your choice. In the case of BRAW, CFT supports the camera metadata. Maybe that's why this exists , in case you create ProRes proxies and then XML over to Resolve for grading/finishing. So it preserves the camera metadata for the roundtrip.

???
You can import using CFP, a color grading plugin, in ordner to prepare the footage for Resolve, a color grading suite? Which is also a more than capable NLE (though not as good as FCP)?

Color Finale Transcoder, not Color Finale Pro. Same company, but a separate product.
Color Finale Transcoder - BRAW, ARRIRAW, DNG and CinemaDNG into FCP

When you import BRAW it reads the metadata from the file and passes that into FCP.
Interface | Color Finale Transcoder

However, I was incorrect about passing that from FCP to Resolve. Apparently FCPXML doesn't support this function.

Also curious because I believe 10.5.4 predates Color Finale Transcoder.

When did 10.5.4 come out? I don't remember. I wrote that CFT 1.0 review in April.

I didn't realize it came out then. I'd only heard of it and tried it more recently. 10.5.3 was June 17.

Color Finale Transcoder works perfectly fine with FCP 10.5.4 and Big Sur. We have had it installed I believe since FCP 10.5.2.
