Reducing ease in ease out in smooth keyframe animation

I want to move a video element on a circular path and tried doing this with keyframe animation. To make the motion nicely rounded I inserted keyframes on about four points on the circle and used smooth interpolation. However, when using smooth points FCP automatically applies ease in ease out at each point which makes the animation look jerky. I want the motion to be constant apart from the first keyframe and the last. How can I do this? I have read you can adjust the ease in and ease out by moving the bezier handles. But moving these handles changes the shape of the animation curve. It seems the handles are doing two different jobs - one controlling the shape of the curve and the other the ease in and ease out. Can these be controlled independently?

Yes, ease in/out controlled by how far/close the end of the bezier handle is to the point. Arc is determined by the angle of that handle.

What you probably want is to do this in Motion (super easy) or use a template that does this.

So how do I minimize ease in and ease out at intermediate points? If I shorten the bezier handles this makes it worse. So I should make them as long as possible instead?

So how do I minimize the ease in and ease out at each intermediate point to achieve constant motion? Shortening the handles seems to make the effect worse. Should I make the handles as long as possible?

Lengthening doesn't seem to work well either. What is the exact relationship between handle length and ease in and ease out? The handle length also affects curvature in ways that the angle does not so even if the length controls ease in and ease out it still doesn't give me independent control of direction and speed. I really haven't seen a good explanation of this anywhere.

This article www.theinsidetips.com/tip-1259-change-ke...e-ease-in-out-speed/ suggests that you can adjust the ease in and ease out speed using the handles but it doesn't explain how the handles affect the ease in out motion precisely and I did not find it helpful in achieving what I needed. It does also say if you want constant motion then use linear points but this is useless because then you lose all the curvature and the animation follows jerky changes of direction.
