I have indeed tried out command post in the past - but found it too buggy too use. Shall I try to uninstall this ? I think I got rid of it via the uninstaller

Yes, fully remove it by whatever steps are necessary. Query their web site for manual de-installation instructions or maybe you can download the uninstaller.

Still having sporadic crashes. I've tried uninstalling command post and a day or two will go by with no crashes - and then I get them all day long. I'm about to go into an intense period of editing and I'm very concerned about how reliable FCP is being.

New crash log below.

That stack trace looks identical to what another FCP user with a 2017 iMac 27 posted here on Jan 23, 2021: origin-discussions2-us-dr-prz.apple.com/en/thread/252354275

Unfortunately no further details or resolution were posted. I don't know if that forum allows contacting other users but you could consider that. Maybe that person has more info about the resolution -- it wasn't that long ago.

You might want to consider erasing your entire machine and reloading your apps and files from scratch, only installing what you need. IOW no extra apps or drivers. I Know that's a lot of work -- I just did it a few weeks ago.

If you want to run EtreCheck and post the file or send it to me I will examine it: etrecheck.com
You can send it privately to me at this location: www.transferbigfiles.com/dropbox/joema

Still having sporadic crashes....

Today there is a FCP bug fix release, 10.5.4. It addresses a stability issue when exporting with certain MacOS language and region preferences, also a stability issue when playing H.264 and HEVC media. I suggest you update to that.

When a new version is just released you may need to go to the Mac App Store, search for Final Cut Pro, then click the *name* "Final Cut Pro" to reach a page where they allow downloading the update.

The same bug updates to Motion, Compressor, and iMovie, also.

thanks - unfortunately after updating I still got a crash just now... I really don't want to re-install everything on this machine...

So I've reinstalled the operating system (in place rather than a total wipe) and so far so good... I'll report back if I get any crashes again...
