Audio changes not saving

Had an odd occurrence over the past few days. When I hit the magic wand tool in the audio inspector it did its job on the clip audio in the timeline as expected. It analyzed the clip and added a small amount of noise reduction. The next time I opened the file the audio in the clip was back to the original audio without the noise reduction. What is weird is that I had used two sections of a longer clip. They were next to each other. The audio in one stayed changed and the other did not. I worked around the problem by adding compression and EQ effects. Not sure why it was doing this. Am running FCPX x.10 release on a 2013 MBP running Mojave.
