I'm using FCPX 10.5.2 (Apple M1Macbook) and am having trouble with cross dissolves.
Here's an example:

That's not really a scene that would benefit from a cross resolve. I'd use b-roll or something to cover that. And while you are doing that, edit out one of the "I hope that answers your question" comments. If you have to desolve this together, there is a new-ish feature in FCP that is suppose to sort of match/blend a frame with another clip that is similar. I believe it is in the Transitions>Disolve>Flow transition . Maybe that would work.
