Yeah, this is going to be odd, but, since I have to do A LOT of it now...
I am charged with the task of silencing out curse words in feature length films for TV broadcast. Hit R, click and drag, pull the volume bar down, easy. The really time consuming part is finding them. I have to sit and listen to the whole film intensely.
I've played with SimonSays and Scribeomatic to go through the text of the dialogue, but I still find stuff they misinterpret/mistranslate enough words on a regular enough basis to not be fully trustable..
Just wondering if anyone has found a really cheap, quick, automated way to find curse words in a 2 hour Timeline? Probably not, I highly doubt anyone here actually does this, but figured I'd ask anyway.

Would creating Captions and then somehow creating some kind of search for the word(s) you are trying to remove at least help find the area that they are in? Or listening to the films at double speed so a little faster?
Intersting question.

Doh! iIt looks like you have already worked with Captions in another way.

I could pay more for "captions" (transcription) and get more accurate transcriptions but I'd rather not spend that much money, plus it take a full 24 hours, sometimes a full 48, for Rev to get back to you. These need to get out sooner.

This may be silly, but how about creating a low res file to upload quickly to Youtube, then use their captions, make note of the time of bad word, go back to your editing version and cut? Sort of round about I know, but free at least.

HHmmm... That's a good idea. I'll have to test it and see 1- how accurate it is, 2- how long it takes. I've only ever done that with short form media. Good idea, thanks!

Google and you’ll find:
nofanity.com/
Didn’t try it. Was just curious as this is an interesting problem and was wondering if there wasn’t somebody who made ‘an app for that’
Looks like it’s only for YouTube videos but maybe you can contact the developer and see if it can work for you?
