Endless plug-in copies atomatically generated

A few 3rd party plug-ins* installed on my mac have generated many many copies of themselves. I don't know how and I don't know why - but I have up to 30 instances of some effects in my library, and they keep duplicating.

Any ideas? Experienced the same? Solutions?

*e.g. Ryan Nagle's Zoom Transitions, MotionVFX transitions etc

I only had this happen after I modified a custom Motion title several times during working in the same library. I had the feeling it happened when storing the Motion title effect inside the library rather than the default Motion templates folder. I think FCP saved a new version if I didn't close down FCP before modifying the title template in Motion and then reapplying (replace) any existing versions of that template in the current project.
I reported the problem to Apple as I think the Motion template workflow could be improved to better recognise changes to a template.
But regardless I could always delete all copies and FCP still recognised the template correctly.

Yes. I did rename some of the folders and manually reorganized some plug ins. I modified a few transitions in Motion. Plus, just like in your case, I too did have some libraries with Motion Templates set to store in library. The triple whammy was probably too much and caused the runaway copies.
Thanks for bringing up that you were just able to delete the extra instances of the effects. I'll go in and delete away.

Hi Enno, I have the same exact problem here.

Deleting the copies (duplicates) doesn't really solve the problem here. Final Cut tries to find the "plugin-x- COPY"  and when it doesn't find it it will give you the red missing title screen. 

This has happened for example with MotionVFX mTuber Zoom Fragment title. All these have to be re-done manually.

Any workaround would be highly appreciated!

If FCP ask for the 'copy' version that can only really mean that you have applied the 'copy' from your template browser in FCP. As the copy is based on the original (hopefully unmodified by you) you could drag the original on the 'copy' version in your timeline and choose 'replace from start'. Any parameter changes should be preserved unless you modified the template and then it depends on what you modified.

Unfortunately, all these titles are 99% of the times modified either by adding text or by zooming in to a specific place or amount of magnification so replacing the title won't really do much. 
I would have to recreate the titles from scratch in the entire project and since the copies don't have any parameters (they are just empty containers), I cannot even copy the settings from the Copy to the correct title. 

This is clearly a bug - unfortunately, over here it's costing me missed deadlines already

Sorry that it’s not working for you. Don’t know the Mtuber template. Have you tried to contact the author to see if they have a possible solution? Must admit I don fully understand your workflow with the template.

This doesn't happen only with mTuber. This was just an example.

This can even happen with simple titles- any title from any developer. What happens is the title (let's say Title 05) gets a duplicate copy in the browser showing as "Title 05 Copy"

Replacing the "copy" title with the correct one will result in a title that has no attributes (text, colours, font size etc) as originally created. 

Not sure if I make it clear enough The problem begins when Final Cut creates these Copy versions of the titles in the browser for no apparent reason. 

I totally agree it’s either a bug or a structural problem in the FCP software. It shouldn’t be happening. From my experience I only see it happening when the Motion template storage directory is set to be inside the library. FCP seems to think ‘oh that’s a diff version of the template’ I need to keep a copy of it. It happened to me every time I modified the original template in the Movie/Motion template folder. But because I only added functionality to a custom template I created myself I could delete all the copies. Nowadays I set the Motion template directory of the library to the Movie/Motion templates master directory and every time I modify a template I quit and restart FCP so it recognises the change without me needing to reapply the template. What I don’t understand is why you have all this diff versions of the same template that behave independently and do not seem to have the same Master template settings. Unless your templates do not have published parameters that you change but you modify position etc via FCP’s standard controls. Sorry it’s hard to understand when you can’t see exactly how it works at your end. Nevertheless I send feedback to Apple some time ago already that there must be a better way Motion templates are setup.
