How to convert stringout clips to keyword ranges

How to convert stringout clips to keyword ranges was created by enno
Challenge: Client sent stringout XMLs with projects divided up into different topics. Such as "Favorite statements person A", "Scenic Shots", "BRoll" etc.
In Premiere I would now pancake timelines and cut his SLX into my master timeline. Or I would drag his SLX from the timeline into a browser to make subclips.
What's the best approach in FCP for this scenario? I basically want to take full advantage of the FCP browser database capabilities and "convert" the timeline clips into keyword ranges. So that I can select keyword "Scenic Shots" in the browser and see all his SLX.
Ideas?

I don't know what pancaking timelines is or SLX in master timeline. Guessing here that you have a project with selects in it. I'd put the playhead over the first clip, Shift-F to match frame, Cmd-K, and type the keyword. Cmd-2 for the timeline. Down arrow. Shift-F, etc. Probably some XML whizz can fully automate this without even seeing the video. Personally I find it useful to see what the video is and what the client likes.

😆 Yes, SLX was supposed to communicate "selects".
Tom, thanks for that. That was my current approach, and you're right, it has the advantage of having to touch every clip and therefore providing an opportunity to check it out. I was just hoping for a more streamlined method to make the process a bit faster.

If the clips in your XML imported project link properly back to the clips in the event(s) you could do the following:
Load the project into the timeline, Select the event(s) the clips are in, then click on the search icon (loupe) and then on the column icon at the end of the search string text field, in the dialogue deselect the 'text' search and add 'Used media'. Now your Event only displays the used media ranges of clips from the selected Event(s) currently in your timeline (change the project and the displayed clips will change).
Now select all, make sure that no ranges are selected in any clip by pressing 'option-x' (as select all select all clips but leaves the last selected range for that clip untouched so unless you clear the ranges you might only target part of a clip in the next step), select all again and open the Keyword editor command-k and enter the keyword you like. Done.

Create a Used Clips custom search collection at the Library level. Quick, simple, easy. With a specific Project active in the Timeline pane, select the Library itself and see it all. That is assuming you have clips from multiple Events in one Project.
Otherwise, if all the clips in a Project are from that same Event, just create the custom Used Clips search collection in the Event.

That is a good idea. Ideally the first person (who used FCP) would have marked the topics "Scenic shots", "B-roll", etc. in the Event Browser and sent an *Event* XML, not use multiple timelines for those. But fortunately they sent timeline XMLs, not rendered timelines.
Ben's method allows rapid isolation of all constituent clips from each timeline, which can then be keyworded or rated. Enno, with FCP the goal is curate within the Event Browser and the ideal data flow is from browser to timeline, not between multiple timelines.
There was formerly a 3rd-party utility MergeX which helped to de-conflict metadata changes from multiple editors in given event, which has now been taken over by Hedge/PostLab: www.fcp.co/final-cut-pro/news/2098-free-...lect-on-the-timeline
