Recording system audio
I need students 13 to 17 years old to record system audio.
Is installing Blackhole the way to go? I'm looking for the simplest method.
They will then record an interview online and edit with Audacity later on.
They will use headphones to prevent feedback.
But I also believe there is an issue with listening to the audio while they are recording.
Any thoughts are welcome!
PS. I wanted to post this in an audio topic but I didn't find one...

Blackhole is not the way to go, I've messed with it, it is for counting audio, not an actual recording app, really.

I would be more than happy if this can be done!
Thanks Ben.

I will make a PDF with the install explanations.
The workshop is online and I have no idea how the Macs are setup.
Some are using PC's.
For myself I have no problem. I'm just looking for a simple solution to propose to the students.
They have to do interviews online using software like Zoom or Skype and maybe Facetime.
Get the sound and then edit in Audacity.
Some might even use iPad's !
It would be nice to just have QT record the system sound without any need for third party audio drivers but...that is in my dreams.

You don't need third party drivers. Not sure where you get the idea you need them, unless you're using a third party interface, then you need the driver for that specific interface, IF it requires one.
• If these are in-person interviews, a pair of mics and Audacity is all you need.
• If these are on-line distance interviews, go with Zoom, it records itself and can give you separate audio files for each person. I do these weekly for broadcast television.
And I'm not sure how this relates to FCP.

Ben, it doesn't relate to FC.
As I said when I started the discussion there is no audio topic which is not related to Logic so I didn't know where to put this.
That said thanks for the info.
Thanks for the links François.
I shall manage from here.

As Ben mentioned Zoom can record and so can Skype.
I will try does out and see how they intergrate with Audacity.
With School projects the main challenge is finding something simple to use and easy to bring into
audio software like Audacity...and free.
I have both Audio Hijack which works really well and Screenflow also is perfect.
I can't use them for the school projects as students don't have access.
I still would love to just fire up QT. Press record and done...
In a school environnement that would be a winner.

I've been using Soundflower (open source) and it works well to record system audio. github.com/mattingalls/Soundflower/releases/

In any case, just recording with Zoom works fine. You get an audio file that you can convert to .wav using Switch
(basic free) and import into Audacity.
