FCPX not saving my work!

I stayed up late last night trying to get a music video finished for an artist. The video will be shown on the national broadcaster here, and I needed to get the project turned around quickly.

Everything shot on a T3i, and converted to ProRes for efficiency.

Anyway, I had been working for about 4 hours straight, when I noticed I suddenly was unable to undo anything (undo was blanked out). So I restarted the program, and found that the last change was not there, so I continued on for another 3 hours dropping in clips and fine tuning the audio. Towards the end of the 3 hours I needed to undo something, and again undo was blanked out. So again I restarted the program, and to my horror the project that opened up had lost about 2 hours worth of editing.

Seems FCPX had stopped auto saving, and the lack of Undo seemed to be connected to it.

So, now really early in the morning I had to reedit everything, and this time I had to keep checking whether or not Undo was highlighted (to know if the program was still running properly).

Seemed to work ok from then, but twice in the same night has got me really worried now.

Anyone heard of this problem?

FCP X has bugs, fact of life, hopefully the next release will fix them.

Regular maintenance is important.

Get "Preference Manager" free from Digital Rebellion. Use it to quickly, easily, safely trash FCPX pref files, which can help.

Inside FCP X, in the File menu, you can delete render files for Events and Projects. Try deleting all render files for all associated Events and Projects.

Run Disk Utility to "repair" (verify is a waste of time) ALL connected drives.

Worse comes to worse, you can move FCP X to the trash from the Applications folder, then launch the Mac App Store, go to the Purchased tab, reinstall FCP X from there. BUT, I'd get "FCP Remover" free from Digital Rebellion and run it. There's more to FCPX than just the app in the Applications folder, and you want it all cleared out to fix problems with a reinstall. But again, this is a last resort.
