Off-the-wall question about simple circle wipe transition

Can anyone buy me a clue on how to accomplish this. I'm trying to create a simple circle wipe from a black screen to a scene of two people on a beach. BUT... I want to pause the circle wipe, so that it starts by opening on one person's face, holds for a couple seconds, then continues to widen out along the same path until the beach scene is fully revealed. If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions, I would greatly appreciate any and all input.
