Transitions on connected clips (again! still!) was created by kipstewart
Hi all. Running into a maddening issue with transitions on connected clips, which I know is an old thing with FCPx. Here's the story:
— I have a background, over which I put a connected clip with alpha layer. I want this to slide in to frame.
— using the FCP slide animation at the start of the connected clip causes the primary layer to brighten during the transition (see attached images, you can see the "before" is darker than the "during").
— It affects ANY underlying layer this way. If I make the background a connected clip also, under the one I'm trying to put the transition on, it also brightens.
— I have paid for and tried Ripple Training's "RT Transmations", which are designed for this purpose, and they ALSO have this issue for me: same brightening of the background/primary clip.
I'm at a loss. The only way I can get rid of the issue is to put another connected clip before the one I want to slide in, set it to zero opacity, and transition *between* the connected clips. Which I can do, it's just really annoying.
Any suggestions gratefully appreciated.
Cheers,
Chris

Many FCP transitions work across all underlying layers. Ripple Training has a collection of transitions, based on the FCP transitions, that have been adapted in Motion to fix this problem.

Thanks for responding — as noted in my post, I have tried using RT's transitions, and they cause the same issue for me.

If there is a problem with the RT effects you need to contact them.

I get around this by having a transparent 1920x1080 PNG image handy. Just use that as the first clip.
Don't have to modify any transitions in Motion, don't have to buy any new plugins

Yeah, I intend to — but as the problem is the same with FCPX's own transitions too, I figured I'd try here as well.

Yeah, I've taken to doing the same. Was just seeing if anyone here had a different solution (or, if in fact I was going mad ...)
Cheers.

Last week I was doing similar things, and getting the same effect as the OP. I traditionally have tricks to fix this, such as Compounds and such. None of it works now since 5.10.1 update. I'm calling it a bug.
