Hi i am upgrading from a LTO 5 with BRU pe software  to a LTO 8 drive since  file sizes grow (4k)   and BRU  pe is not supporting new  mac OS(32/64bit)   . I think  LTFS is the new way  to go  and i was looking at " preroll post "from imagine and i liked it  .. .. but they also stopped supporting the new mac OS  (i think  32/64 bit also ,  not to think of apple silicon;)) .  don't want to buy an outdated software now. i also found Yoyota, which seems to be supported but not so intuitive i found ( the demo)  . What do you use ?  any recommendations ? ( i use FCP for editing , so project support would be fine , but not essential)    .  thank you   !

Maybe Canistor by Hedge, or check OWC's LTO software.

BRU PE is now owned by Other World Computing. They haven't released a new version yet or announced how they will handle the old Bru customer base. The Bru version for Catalina upwards is called Argest now but it still had bugs that weren't fixed before the take over.
Yoyota gets really good reviews but my reaction is as yours: way to complicated and geared for the IT guy that does noting else.
I'm very happy w Canister. It might take a while until you figure out the exact drivers to install for your drive depending on the brand. Canister uses the vendors LTFS drivers. It tries to help you finding them but if you have a HP drive like I do, you have to search the net yourself to get them. Once everything is properly installed it is super simple and reliable. I just wish they would add automatic splitting data over multiple tapes. Right now you can only write one tape at a time. So if you have more data than the one tape you have to manually split the set.

There are one or 2 other options but when I researched only a minimal amount of people using them.
If you want to stay up to date with what's going on, head over to the Creative Cow forum on backup:  creativecow.net/forums/forum/storage/ .  You don't have to sign up to read the posts but it's a good source to what is out there for LTO. (specially this threat:  creativecow.net/forums/thread/tolis-clos...ckup-moving-forward/ )

Hi thanks for your  reply !I    heard from imagine Software ( preroll post ) that they have joined with OWC also . there seems to be a lot going on with these Companies .   OWC 'S own    LTO is bundled with the Imagine Software "my LTO" ,  which is a basic  LTO Archiving Solution,  but offers no Database.  They are working on something they said.   i will have a look on canister , since i have to decide fast, and i don't want a buggy beta.   savety first on  Backup:)!

I did't have problems with retrieving but it's been a while since I used it as I do very little archiving. There is no manual. Best to contact them via their website chat or via email. They always replied very quickly to my questions.

Actually not sure whether you can backup a single file only because I never tried it. So sorry can't answer this one :-)
