Music on Primary Storyline?

Music on Primary Storyline? was created by enno
Editing a 3 minute montage with music from start to finish. Would a good approach be to place the song* I'll be using throughout the cut on the primary storyline? If I place it on a secondary storyline, it seems I'm just asking for magnetic timeline trouble when editing to the beat.
Thoughts?
*I placed the song into a compound clip containing watermarked music clip. Once the client gives the thumbs up, I'll be able to replace the

As the magnetic timeline works based on connection relations think of it this way:
What do I want to connect to what?
Do I want to connect specific vision to a specific point in the music? If yes then the music should be in the primary and everything else should be connected to it. (You can combined blocks of clips in a secondary story line which is then connected to one specific point in the primary storyline (music)).
The reverse can be true too: I want to connect (can be the beginning or any other part of the music, but can only be a single point} music to a specific vision. Then the vision will be in the primary and the music is connected to that.
Decide this basic question first and then you know how to start.
Hope this helps.

Music on the Primary Storyline. I do this with commercials and promos all the time. The music won't change, so it goes on the Primary Storyline, everything else connects to it. Your concern is valid.
Why put music in a Compound clip?

Smart move putting your music in the compound clip. We do this all the time at work as a best practice. Allows us to edit the music and then when we have client sign off we just swap out the music in the compound clip and all the edits and everything are already set in the project. Carsten is right though, just depends on what your approach is. If it’s a music video I usually do music in primary track and attach all clips. If it’s a promo and the sync doesn’t matter then I do visuals in primary and music attached.

Compound clip: When using watermarked temp tracks before licensing, placing the music track into a compound clip (and editing/shortening it in the timeline) allows me to replace the watermarked mp3 with a licensed .aiff or .wav once music has been approved and licensed.

If it's just one music track, you can easily do a replace edit, and compound clips don't matter. Any keyframing you can copy/paste to the new audio clip very quickly and easily.
The only reason to use a compound clip is if you have more than one piece of media that needs to be treated equally with others. And for simply swapping out one music clip for another, a compound is unnecessary.
My good friends at Ripple must have had some other reason for using a compound, beyond just swapping out one audio clip for another.

I saw this, too, in Ripple a while back. I always put a watermarked music track I know I'll be cutting up in a Compound Clip. Then I make my edits on the CC. When the track is approved, I replace the watermarked track in the CC with the licensed one, and all the music edits remain good.

OK, so you're cutting that music up. But if you relink the non-watermarked clip, it shouldn't matter if it's in a CC or not. How exactly are you replacing all those music clip edits to match a new file?
