Screen recording software

Hi,
Didn't really know in which topic to put this.
I'm looking for a good screencapture software for video.
The project I am about to start has evolved and will take into acount the COVID situation.
I will be making videos of the dicussions and stories with the screen capture software.
I will then edit these in FCX. I'm aiming for hight quality when this is possible.
Project is 1080 HD but will probably use some cropped footage.
I don't control the video tools of the participants...and neither the phones.

Film is then edited, animation is added, photos etc...
Any suggestions for a screen capture software that you have tried is welcome.

UPDATE: Looking at IshowU and Screenflow.

QuickTime Player is great. I have been using it to record tutorials for years.

Its in File>New Screen Recording.

Works perfectly well and you can edit those in FCPX easily.

btw I have been using Screen Flow for a year now and I really like it. The only reason that I switched from Quicktime to ScreenFlow is, its less taxing on the CPU.

CPU aspect is important.
With ScreenFlow, while recording the screen can I record my mic and the sound of the video app (Zoom, Facetime Skype etc...).

QTX will not record audio with a screen movie. Screenflow is what professional trainers use. It's the best on the market, and the best to not only record with but to edit those screen captures with.

Yes, Screen Flow can record audio (needs to install a plugin) records mic and even your iPhone screen if you connect it to your Mac.

I couldn't agree more, if one wants to spend money on screen recording software, its a much better option than QT and as you mentioned QT doesn't record system's audio.

Record with ScreenFlow. Edit any specific ScreenFlow FX such as any unique Callouts and Actions that can't be replicated in FCPX. Then export the flavor of ProRes you want (including 4x4 with Alpha if you need to use transparency) and then edit in FCPX.

ScreenFlow has features not possible with Quicktime screen recording. It can record screen region or record multiple monitors simultaneous if you have such a setup. Actions allow independent control of cursor size and replacement. It can also highlight a foreground program and blur the rest of the screen recording background. These would be difficult to do in FCPX.

Works very well. This project evolved into using screenvideo because of the COVID situation where we meed to talk to many elders. It is an interesting challenge for the film concept.

One thing I can't do with Facetime is get rid of my face!
Is there a way of removing my camera? Disabling it only puts a black square and blocks precious
space.

UPDATE: You can disable the camera with a phone. It completely removes the square.
You can't do that with the desktop Facetime.

There is a free plugin called Soundflower that will act as a virtual input and output so you can record system audio with Quicktime.

It shows up as an output in System Preferences and input in Quicktime's recording source options.

Screenflow works fine. The challenge I'm referring to is getting rid of my face when I do
an interview with someone else using Facetime. I only have this using facetime
on my iMac desktop.
I can get rid of my face if I use iPhone ou iPad.

My iphone is not recent enough to test. Is it possible to use Sidecar to view my iPhone on my iMac?

Would a screen region recording selecting your guest only solve the problem?

Yes. I thought about that and tried it.
It plays with the proportions and the ratio is not very interesting.
Also constrains even more the movement of the guest.
Since resolution is always a problem for these recordings I'm trying not to enlarge more than needed.

Could you just place a solid black picture in picture in the video to hide your face? Could you add an image or text that is relevant to the topic?

PS.: Funny, I just noticed what youy mentioned last night on TV.

Perhaps you'd be better served by using Skype. With NDI out you could capture the guest only in software that can use NDI input such as Telestream Wirecast although maybe OBS can do that as well.

I've done tons and tons of these for my TV station. I use Zoom, as its record function gives me amazing quality video, and individual audio stems so I can adjust each person's audio independently. Nothing I've found is easier nor better quality.

One on One has no time limit which is also great.
