How to keyframe a pause in clip?

I want to pause a clip for a few seconds to emphasize certain points with arrows. I have a rookies knowledge of key framing but I do not see what I need to do to hold that freeze for a few seconds. As an alternative I was thinking of capturing a frame, splitting the clip and inserting the image for a certain duration.

Is there an easier way with key framing?

Go the frame you want and use Edit>Add Freeze Frame Opt-F.
