Final Cut Crashes and crashes
Please Log in to join the conversation.
There is a narrow bug in FCPX 10.4.7 and 10.4.8 on both Mojave and Catalina whereby certain HEVC codecs can cause a hang or crash. To prevent this, transcode to proxy or optimized media. If it hangs during that task, use an external tool such as Handbrake to transcode before importing.
Due to limitations in the FCPX plugin architecture, all plugins developed with the FxPlug3 framework run within the address space of FCPX. A bug in any plugin can cause FCPX to hang or crash. Evaluate all plugins you have installed, update them, and totally remove any non-needed plugins.
Disable background rendering in FCPX preferences. Then delete all cache files via select library and File>Delete Generated Library Files>Delete Render Files>All. As needed, manually render the timeline, e.g, select all clips with CMD+A and do a one-time render via CTRL+R.
Make sure you have at least 20% free space on all hard drives.
Try resetting FCPX preferences (item 11 below):

That is good, at least no plugins simplifies the situation.
If you are running Chrome or are using any HEVC material, those are also possibilities. Some of your clips show drone footage, which on recent DJI models is often HEVC.
I can easily reproduce FCPX crashes using HEVC material from a DJI Inspire 2. Months ago I forwarded that to Apple Pro Apps Support, along with small files to reproduce this.
Also -- make sure you temporarily disable any external A/V devices such as AJA or Blackmagic interfaces, also do not use wireless earphones or AirPods. This is just a temporary test to inspect whether those are involved. There have been many reports of external interface devices and bluetooth audio devices causing hangs and crashes.
If any of your media is on a NAS, try to reproduce the problem without that, having all media only on directly-attached storage devices. If using a USB hub of any type, as a test procedure discontinue that. Numerous USB hubs can cause unpredictable behavior, esp. with spinning hard drives. This can be random and unpredictable, whereby the storage device apparently works OK for a long time, then suddenly it flickers off line. That in turn can cause FCPX to crash.
Make sure all storage devices are formatted HFS+ or APFS, not ExFAT or anything else.
If using external storage devices, run a Blackmagic Speed Test to verify performance is as expected. Some newer USB SSDs will exhibit slow and unpredictable behavior if using them on a USB hub or using any other cable besides the short, thick factory cable.

Adware - Adware detected.
Unsigned files - There are unsigned software files installed that could be adware and should be reviewed.
Heavy CPU usage - Some processes are using an unusually high amount of CPU.
Minor Issues:
These issues do not need immediate attention but they may indicate future problems or opportunities for improvement.
Heavy RAM usage - Apps are using a large amount of RAM.
Clean up - There are orphan files that could be removed.
Unsigned files - There are unsigned software files installed. Apple has said that unsigned software will not run by default in a future version of the operating system.
System modifications - There are a large number of system modifications running in the background.
Runaway user process - A user process is using a large percentage of your CPU.
Heavy I/O usage - Your system is under heavy I/O use. This will reduce your performance.
32-bit Apps - This machine has 32-bits apps will not work on current versions of the operating system.
Limited drive access - More information may be available with Full Drive Access.

If I got a report like that back, I'd back-up my system, wipe it clean, fresh macOS install, and very carefully and very selectively install the apps I actually need, and not a bunch of system mods.
It's not FCPX giving you problems, it is other processes running on your Mac that shouldn't be that are giving you problems.
Just my 2 cents.

You have a large amount of kernel extensions, malware and various other things installed which could easily cause this problem. The root problem is unlikely the fault of FCPX, which is likely the victim in this case. There is nothing in FCPX which can be fixed or re-configured to solve this.
Questionable items include:
Joyround browser hijack
Smokyashan browser hijack
Adobe Flash Player (unknown if real or malware)
Paragon NTFS (normally OK but no FCPX libraries should be on any NTFS drive)
Kernel extensions:
Soundflower.kext (1.6.2 - SDK 10.6)
AKAI_MPC.kext (2.2.5 - SDK 10.7)
PACESupportFamily.kext (5.9.1 - SDK 10.6)
ufsd_NTFS.kext (14.1.45 - SDK 10.5)
Seagate Storage Driver.kext (5.2.6 (26925) - SDK 10.4)
RMEFirefaceUSB.kext (3.16 - SDK 10.11)
RMEUSBNetworkDriver.kext (1.0.3 - SDK 10.11)
RDUSB0145Dev.kext (1.0.1 - SDK 10.9)
Any kernel extension runs in the kernel address space and has access to all processes. The slightest bug in a kernel extension can destabilize apps, hang or crash MacOS. For this reason kernel extensions have been deprecated by Apple since WWDC 2019 and developers should be moving their code to alternate frameworks (which Apple extensively documented). After the next MacOS version Big Sur, kernel extensions will likely stop working in order to protect the OS. In the meantime the best approach is do not install any kernel extensions unless they are absolutely vital and trusted.
Sometimes system problems can be isolated to one or two things, you fix those and the problem is resolved. However -- you have so much stuff on there it's likely easier to back up your files, erase the entire machine, re-install MacOS and FCPX *only*, then run an FCPX workload. It will probably run fine. Then you can very carefully, selectively re-install *only* the items you absolutely need and for which there is no possible alternative -- one by one, running tests between each one. When doing that have a Time Machine backup drive running so if any problems you can revert the the previous saved state.
After re-installing *only* MacOS and FCPX on a cleanly erased machine, if you have a performance or stability issue, post those details and we will try to help.

I double agree. After a certain point you can expend more time trying to remove stuff and run tests than just erasing the machine and selectively installing only what you need.
And after spending all that time trying to remove suspected problem items, if it still doesn't work right, then you have to erase and re-install anyway.
