Spiraling still images

Hi. I want to create an upward rising spiral of still images within a video against a background video. The effect I want it a sequence of still images rising up from the bottom to the top in which each still image gradually fades away. I know how to get the still images and put them on the top layer over the background. It's the spiraling (curved) lines I am interested in. Any ideas? Thanks!
