I have a MCClip of a band with several angles. Instead of just cutting to a single angle, i want to make a split screen of 2 angles for the choruses in the song. How do i extract just the 2 angles out of the MCClip at specific spots in the timeline so i can treat them as individual clips which i can position left and right in a spit screen?? I can't just go to the browser and get the clips because it HAS to be exactly where they occur in the MCClip in the timeline. I just want to LIFT a couple angles out of the MCClip at exact positions where the playhead is.
My PROBLEM is... i can use the range tool and copy the section i need and paste above the original MCClip, BUT when i double-click to open it up to select just the 2 angles....the playhead INSIDE the MCClip is NOT at the same position as it is OUTSIDE the MCClip in the timeline! Wtheck?? You would think double-clicking at a spot in the timeline would be the same position INSIDE the clip. But it is not. Because the timeline has its OWN starting timecode of 0:00:00:00 and the section of the MCClip that i coped has ITS own 0:00:00;00 and they don't match. So again...how to extract 2 angles out of a MCClip at specific positions, and be able to make them individual clips so i can make a split screen ABOVE the original MCClip.
Thanks!

I am not where I can confirm your issue at the moment, but I can make a suggestion. Do, as you did, make a range of the first angle and instead of copying and pasting, try exporting it as a movie file. Go back and change the active angle to your second desired angle and range select the same location and export that as a movie file. Now, import both movies, stack them and create your split screen. I would think that should work and preserve the sync.

Creating history....one edit at a time !

You don't extract the angles, but duplicate the MC in the timeline, stack them, pick the angle in each and scale them for splitscreen display. The technique is demonstrated in MacBreak Studio #285, "Multi-screen multicam in Final Cut Pro X":

Ah ha!! Thank you! I did consider this but i talked myself out of it mostly thinking making copies of the MCClip would bog down my processing speed. But i suppose they are nothing by references so that wouldn't be the issue. Thanks again joema!
