iMovie will not transfer project to Final Cut Pro X: XML error

by Stewart
I am new to FCP and I have successfully transferred most of my iMovie projects to FCP. However, the most important of all projects will not transfer. It keeps giving me this error message: "The XML document sent from application "iMovie" could not be imported." (then underneathe that message is reads: an unexpected error occurred in importing the media. (asset: /imoviexml[1]/resources[1]/asset[106])"
Does anyone know how to fix this? I have no clue what any of this means.
Thank you!

I had the same problem with some iMovie projects. What did work for me, in iMovie I duplicated the problematic project and exported this new project to FCPX using Send Movie To Final Cut Pro. It worked a charm. Hope this will help.

"Send Movie To Final Cut Pro" is how it should be done to start with, not with XML.

I am trying to send it straight to FCPX and when I do it appears as if everything is working fine, until the end, when the error message pops up with XML error. I don't even know what XML is referring to.

Do as described in my first message. Use the Send to Final Cut Pro feature which is the correct way to transfer an iMovie project to FCPX (see attached image, sorry mine is in French). If an error message should still appear, duplicate the project which refuses to export and send to FCPX the new created project through "Send to Final Cut Pro". I had a few projects which gave an error message and this is what solved the problem.

Hi Stewart, Welcome to the forums
I would try what Nirna suggests to create a new duplicate project and try to send that.
I was also wondering what version of iMovie this was created in? Does it open and play in iMovie? FCPX version?
It is also possible that you have a corrupt media file/effect/font that cannot transfer.
Hope this Helps, Greg

Yeah, like everything else, be sure you're on compatible versions.
