Dusting off some old projects from FCP 7. I'm using SEND TO X as a middle man but when the project opens in FCPX I get black clips in the timeline.

Those look like Compound Clips or something. So you see anything in the Viewer during playback? If you double-click, does it open into its own timeilne?
SendToX isn't 100% perfect, there are things that simply don't translate between 7 and X. So you get what you get, mostly.
What codec/format are the clips coming in from the FCP7 project?

Nothing in the viewer during playback and when I double-click still black.
Codec is ProRes 422.
