Puzzling Blank Viewer

Hello people...I have just upgraded to Catalina and 10.4.8 FCP. the strangest thing, is that the viewer is now totally blank! I have re started FCP, deleted all the rendered files, and exhausted all the ideas I could find on Google. Any help ideas would be dandy

I assume you have a clip in the timeline and your playhead is over it. If so, and the viewer is still blank, try clearing your FCPX preferences. Restart FCPX while holding Option and Command keys and choose to delete prefs when asked.

You are correct, something in the timeline and the playhead is over it..never seen this in 7 years of use!

Thanks, tried that but no progress. Did a reinstall, deleted generated files etc...

I spent much time on the phone with Apple Support and we figured it out. I use dual monitors, both Apple Products. When I use FCP with my MBP closed I encounter the problem. This was duly noted by the nice lady at Apple, fo now I am using FCP with MBP open...not a hardship

Interesting note, that.
I had the same problem. Resolved by opening the lid.
One point i would add though... If you close the lid, it continues working.
You simply need to launch FCPX with the MBP lid open, then you can close it. Which means even less hassle!

I boot with the lid open, then close, everything works.
