Playback jumping to end of edit

I have a 4 min promo. It's been fine, but now when I play the edit at any point in the timeline it jumps to the final frame. It won't JKL in the timeline at all, just jumps to the end. No magnetic timeline features on, and nothings changed in the last 10 mins. I just want to get this finished and sent out. Thanks

First thing to do is trash your preferences.

Hi Tom, really again? Is this usual for FCPX? I'm surprised to be doing it again today. Thanks

Trashed them and it's still doing it I'm afraid.

You are discussing this on two different threads.

Superfast playback, I have that pop up every 48 hours on my iMac. If it's the issue I have, it happens in all apps. When that happens in FCPX, quit, go and play a YouTube video in Safari and see if you get that superfast playback there, also. If so, I know what it is.

Maybe it's this? ("How to fix the fast playback bug in macOS"): 9to5mac.com/2019/07/29/macos-fast-video-...ix-coreaudiod-video/

I've had this issue for YEARS and no one has a clue what causes it.

Simple to fix, though. Be aware I have to do this every morning I sit down to work, so it's not a full 100% fix.
1, Launch Activity Monitor.
2, Search for coreaudiod.
3, Force Quit it.
Done.

Hi thanks for that, I didn't see your reply. Amazing that has worked and I'm back editing. I'd much prefer to do that, than keep trashing prefs. Thanks again.

3-4 years of this issue over two different Macs and no one can tell me why this happens, much less a permanent fix. I do this pretty much every morning now.

It seems to impact users with connected audio interfaces, but that just may be apocryphal.
