new beginner to fcpx, seem to be having the common problem with adding a transition linking clips together,WHY is this such a problem with lots of people? I can place one and extend it on the beginning of an event (first clip) but thereafter I find it impossible, tried very thing and must have seen to every tut but nothing works, the yellow bounding box appears but if I click it just moves the whole box to wherever I drag it ? I've wasted days on this problem to the point its driving me to Da vinci!

Sounds like you're talking about connected clips. Is that correct? They have to have an Out and In points touching, or place them in a Storyline.

Cheers for the reply but you seem to misunderstand my post, I’ve tried everything, ins, outs etc, of course there are multiple clips in the storyline hence adding transitions to link them up?🤗

Need to be more specific; are these connected clips or clips in the Primary Storyline? Those all act differently. If these are clips in the Primary Storyline, you'll need to be sure there are enough handles to use a transition. That means a minimum of 1 second of content that is not used in the Timeline (trimmed) so the transition has enough to cover.

So you select the edit point, double-click the transition you want in the Transition Browser. Or drag-and-drop it on the edit point. It is very simple. Or Cmd-T to use the default transition.
BUT, if you don't have handles, you can't use a transition. A 1-second transition needs at least 1 second of unused media at the end of the first clip, and at least 1 seconds of unused media at the start of the second clip. Without that unused portions of the clips, there's nothing for a transition to interact with.
Another issue is if there are very little handles and a transition of only a few frames is placed on that edit point. Then you need to zoom in on that edit point very close to remove it, then adjust your handles.
