fcp x 10.3.4 select another folder. None of the files are found in this folder

I've had a terrible week. A hard drive melted with a significant amount of FCP 10.3.4 libraries and source footage.
Fortunately I have all the footage backed up and library back ups to retrieve what I lost. The bugger is when I go to relink the footage it's coming up with a crazy message:"Select another folder. None of the files are found in this folder." even though it is precisely the same footage (and same file names).
To cut a very long story short, I've dumped the .plist and tried recreating a new library and project and copying the original timeline footage. No luck. I'm hoping someone out there has encountered a similar problem and found a solution. Thanks in advance.

Backup drive, can't stress that enough, clone backup of drives. ANYWAY...
Well, did any files have name changes in the Finder at any time? I know someone here spoke about using an XML export to reimport and trick FCPX into retrieving the proper files. Export the Project as an XML (or the Event, project may be more reliable). Create a new Library. Import the XML and see if you can relink from that.
