copying clips from one event to another was created by Itstonybabyvlog
Not sure what I'm doing wrong here, all I want to do is copy a clip from one event to another. Even on Apples support pages for FCPX it says if you click and drag, it will COPY the clip to the other event, and if you command click it will MOVE the clip to the other event. Neither one for me copies, they both simply move, no copying involved, and I tried it both ways. Anyone have any thoughts?
Again to clarify, I want to COPY a clip from one event to another, not MOVE.
This is an exert from apples own help files:
Copy clips, projects, or events between libraries
In the Libraries sidebar in Final Cut Pro, select the event you want to copy, or select the event that contains the clips or projects you want to copy.
If you’re copying clips or projects, select them in the browser. Note: You can’t select clips and projects at the same time.
Do one of the following:
If the library you want to copy to is present in the Libraries sidebar: Drag the items to the library. If you’re copying an event, drag it to the library icon. If you’re copying clips and projects, drag them to a specific event icon.
If the library you want to copy to is not present in the Libraries sidebar: Do one of the following:
Choose File > Open Library and choose the library from the submenu, then follow the instructions above.
Choose File > Copy [item] to Library and choose the library from the submenu, or choose New Library to create a new library and set a location for it.
If your selection contains optimized or proxy media, a window appears with more options. Select the options you want for copying optimized or proxy media, then click OK.
Move clips, projects, or events between libraries
In the Libraries sidebar in Final Cut Pro, select the event you want to move, or select the event that contains the clips or projects you want to move.
If you’re moving clips or projects, select them in the browser. Note: You can’t select clips and projects at the same time.
Do one of the following:
If the library you want to move the items to is present in the Libraries sidebar: Command-drag the items to the library by first starting to drag and then holding down the Command key as you drag. If you’re copying an event, drag it to the library icon . If you’re copying clips and projects, drag them to a specific event icon.
If the library you want to move the items to is not present in the Libraries sidebar: Do one of the following:
Choose File > Open Library and choose the library from the submenu, then follow the instructions above.
Choose File > Move [item] to Library and choose the library from the submenu, or choose New Library to create a new library and set a location for it.

Do you want to copy clips between two events in the same library, or between libraries? The behavior is different. The support pages you’re quoting are for copying and moving between libraries not within a single library. To copy within a single library you have to Option drag as in the Finder.

AH! SUCCESS! I take back all the nasty things I said about you Tom! At first, I didn't think it would work, because I rarely use the "list" view, only the "thumbnail" view. in thumbnail view clicking option just changes the pointer from a hand to a double sided arrow for selecting portions of the clip. But yes, if you change it to list view, click + drag just moves it, but your option + drag indeed does copy clips from one event to another event in the same library.
you da man!

And I think I figured out how to quote someone in this forum now too! lolTom Wolsky wrote: Do you want to copy clips between two events in the same library, or between libraries?
