Make sure your viewer is not set beyond 100% footage from the XL2 is only SD, if it is scaled above 100% it will look bad in the viewer

Yes, and remember its the same quality in any NLE, as Mini-DV tape only records 1's and 0's, thus there are no quality issues in the footage. So check your Viewer zoom Percent. Shift-Z will do a fit to window, which should never take you over 100%, and be sure you are placing it into NTSC format Timelines, NOT HD Timelines.

Thanks very much but however I'm using sd pal. Could that be the reason
For bad quality then My final out put is DVD When I use avid the same footage of the same size
Gives me better quality on DVD From my final cut the footage on
DVD has lines and appears pixated

Oh, you're having compression issues.
What is the total duration of the video you are encoding for the DVD?
How exactly are you encoding/creating your DVD?

I don't think it's compression issues coz I can see the badness of the
Footage before compressing it to DVD. However I just pressed share
To DVD when it finished background rendering I don't have compressor
Could this be the issue. What are the adva rage of having compressor

You may have bad footage on the actual tape.
Compressor gives you more options and control for building transcodes.
