Edit codec and frame rate question for DSLR footage

I'm about start a feature film project that was shot with Canon 5D mkII .
I've optimized the material to ProRes 422 (in FCP7 with Canon plugin to get the TC metadata), since I figured the ProRes HQ is overkill for 4:2:0 8-bit material. Am I right? Unless Apple comes up with a better solution in a couple of months I will probably give the post house a FCP 7 project (ProRes 422) using the Xto7 and/or a playout master from FCP X. The final delivery output will be a 4K DCP.

The footage is shot mostly at 24fps (which is actually 23.976 fps). Audio was recorded with SD 788T at 24 fps. All audio seems to sync fine with FCP X. There are only few scenes with dialog.
The question is: should I make a 24 fps or 23.976 fps project in FCP X? If I decide to make a 24 fps project should I conform speed in FCP X? I'm concerned about the audio sync issues, since I'll try to output an OMF or AAF file for audio post when I'm finished.

I've done some tests with both Xto7 and Auto Duck and so far keeping the project at 23.976 seems give best results as far as audio sync is concerned.

Any advice is appreciated.

Hi, don't know what a 788t is (sound recorder?)it won't record in frames per second but in sample rates (48k for vid).
FCP7 has a 'feature' when it comes to 23.976, it is attempting to pull down the audio.
I would use cinema tools to conform the footage to 24fps then take them both into fcp7, this seems like an quick and dirty fix to my mind (I also haven't used FCS for 3/4 months and it's amazing what drifts out of mind with non-use!) but I never shoot at anything other than progressive rates and I run pro-tools for external stuff that comes my way. I don't know if FCPX still does the 'helpfull' pull down thang.

Anyways, there are real gurus here who will give you better answers than me. Good luck:)

just a quick question for clarification. Where you sync'ing from a master clock so that TC was controlled on all devices? Does the audio equipment give you an option to match fps at any given sample rate? sorry that's two questions;)

There was no master clock on the shoot and the sync is not a problem since even the longest dialog takes seems to sync perfectly in FCP X.
I've tested the OMF/AAF output (with both Auto Duck and Xto7) with a 23.976 project and all is fine (so far...).

It seems now that I'll edit at 23.976, same goes for audio post and the conforming to 24 fps happens after the final mix.

just as an observation. When I was looking around today I came across a number of threads talking about drop frame issues with the 5D. This was news to me but I imagine that might become an issue on long form work.
