Hi,

little update / help for those getting gamma shift issues roundtripping between FCPx and Resolve, after much fiddling, we found the final solution was to Calibrate our screens to Gamam 2.4 (or more alternatively, choose a Rec 709 profile in displays) And have the project settings in resolve 2.4 also.

Now all our outputs match wether resolve VLC quicktime or mp4 via compressor.

Hope this helps some others!

Little update, after much fiddling and research across on the Resolve forums, it's all to do with Gamma tagging. Resolve is outputting the files with a different gamma tag in the quicktime than FCPx. Long and short is that these settings have allowed consistent gamma between the programs

Screen calibrated to gamma 2.4
Resolve colour science YRGB Colour managed
Input Gamma 2.4
Timeline Gamma 2.4
Output Gamma Rec 709 (scene)

Hope this helps!

Ahh so its not just me..

I was fiddling with an ACES workflow in Resolve today and was getting confused by this.

ACES CCT, REC709 ODT Slog3 IDT. Set Gamma and colour space tags to Rec709 and all was great.

Glad it's helped in one way or another, in an update to resolve since this post, they have added a function in the deliver page to allow you to add a gamma tag and a colour space tag to the footage, which means it can be roundtripped to fcpx correctly!

Yes I have documented the same gamma shift from Resolve to FCP 10.5.4 as a bug with FCP. Why? Quicktime's gamma shift was solved years ago. Now you gotta think about an adjustment from Resolve when round tripping to FCP. Stupid. I checked it on the reference monitor with screenshots. Found that a gamma correction of -0.07 in FCXP also handled it. WTF?
