File Vault performance

What are people’s views on this? Many professionals say they never File Vault their systems. Others say they’ve done it for years without problem. Now that Apple is moving some of this into T2 chips would that change people’s mind? Especially for portable that might be more subject to theft or loss.

This is a valid issue, a few months ago the car of one of our crews was vandalized and they stole a laptop which had been in active use on a project. A RAID array was also stolen. Fortunately we had a redundant array in another vehicle.

I'm not sure if you are interested in another solution outside of Apple. But I've used DriveStrike software on pretty much all business equipment (android, apple, windows) before that doesn't hit performance and is super easy, gives you the security of if something was lost like mentioned above you can locate or just wipe the device.
