BRILLIANT!
Tim, I am consistently amazed and grateful to your work and embrace of FCPX. You are one of the few people I know that really seems to have a grasp on the platform. Bravo!

Hey! I watched this tutorial, which is very helpful, but unfortunately isn't really helping me in my current situation very much, which you can read all about here:
www.fcp.co/forum/4-final-cut-pro-x-fcpx/...m-footage-size#10901
Was wondering if anybody from this thread would have the solution. Thanks!

As my distinguished colleague, Tom Wolsky, pointed out, currently FCP X obeys the aspect ration settings in a clip on import and doesn't allow overrides.
The workaround for now is to just stretch the footage with that transform parameters. I believe 133% on the X should get you in the ballpark.
Trust me I deal with the lack of aspect ration setting issue quite often in FCP X. Apple is aware of it, but if you have a second put in a feedback request.

Great Tutorial. Really useful. This is the sort of real world scenario I run into all the time as an editor.

Yeah, I went ahead and put in a feedback request to Apple. I understand their desire to simplify things, which is great, but I just can't believe there isn't a simple way to do custom sizes and ratios.
