How to make silent film text cards in FCP X?

I have some clips I want to look like silent film in FCP X. I know how to reduce saturation and add noise to make the action clips look like silent film.....but I want some text cards too. I'd love to put in a border and get a good font to make it look like silent film. Any advice for how to do that?

$3 template
www.dondrup.com/graphic/27570-graphicriv...unds-v2-3925292.html

There's a bunch on Pintrest I'm told.
Do some web searches, there are templates all over for this.

You could make them with a graphic software.

Film damage effects usually include scratches, hairs, shake, dirt, etc. Many third-party developers have them, but you also have a really great one that comes with FCPX. Go to your Effects browser, to the Stylize category, and try out Aged Film.

As for making these title cards from scratch, well, if you're a really good, really fast graphic designer who can get those fancy borders made in 5 minutes, maybe. I spent the $3 and got the amazing templates, saving time, which is money.

As someone who has actualy worked with film, most film effects are very unconvincing. I might try to put my own filter together some day, but first I need to get a hold of a 35mm film projector and some clear film I can damage to achieve the proper effect. Someday soon hopefully.

As for the silent title cards, usually each studio had their own border graphic as I recall. Not that it matters much these days, but the ones linked in the second post are pretty cool.
