I need a basic capturing tutorial. I have over 40 Hi8 tapes Family stuff. Im new at FCP. I'm using my old Sony TRV25 camera as a deck. Will be saving (capturing) to a 8TB external HD.

Wouldn't he still need a capture device of some kind? I posted a tutorial link using FCPX with the Canopus ADVC 110. It is really easy to use but perhaps they don't want you to post video links in these forums.

You will still need a way to get the camera connected to your computer in order to use any capturing solution. Either Firewire (if you computer has that port) with a direct connection, or using the cameras composite AV jacks thru a converter (there are many) such as any of the Canopus ADVC units (available only on EBay), or BMD capture devices such as Intensity Pro, UltraStudio, etc. Once you have a successful connection, then either Quicktime X or FCPX, BMD Media Express and many other apps will allow you to do this.

There are adapters that can take you from FireWire to Thunderbolt and USBC.

The BMD Intensity Shuttle only works if your VHS or Hi-8 camera has a built in TBC. Other wise it just flickers and flashes. The Canopus ADVC 110 and the ADS Pyor A/V Link has hardware to take worn out tapes and clean them up.

True. I found the rocket adapters didn’t work well.
