The DCR TRV25 is a Mini DV camera with Sony i.LINK, aka FireWire, so "all" you'll need is a FireWire cable and a way to plug it to your Mac. That will probably consist of a Thunderbolt to FireWire adapter.
If you get the camera plugged into the computer, FCPX should recognize it and you'll get some deck control and a simple import that is purely digital, no conversion needed.
If getting FireWire up and running is tricky on your current Mac, one option is to find an old (OLD) Mac that has FireWire built in. It should also have some version of iMovie which will let you import your tapes. Then you can transfer you imported files to your current Mac and FCPX.

In addition to the above information, you can also capture directly into quicktime by using its "New Movie Recording" feature. This will offer the option of recording either Prores 4444 Quality (which is overkill) or compressed H.264. The advantage of capturing directly into FCPX is that you will likely want to remove the multiple dropouts associated with older 8mm tapes, so editing the captured file will be necessary to do that - but you'll be forced to capture at a minimum quality of Prores 422 LT (plenty for 8mm SD tapes, but much larger files than H.264). FCPX will automatically create a new clip where every timecode break is detected. Also, Quicktime may stop often during the capture when tape issues are detected (timecode breaks) requiring you to end up stitching multiple clips together in FCPX anyway. If you want to transfer analog signals instead, BlackMagic design offers the Intensity Pro 4K Capture Card or Standalone unit with many options for upscaling the video, color correction, etc. and will capture continuously even through timecode breaks (as opposed to Quicktime).
