Automating Removal of quite parts in clips

Hi All

So, usually the part that takes 70% of the time in my video editing, is removing the parts the have 0 audio in them "i.e. no audio waves".

So, basically what I do after importing the video, I apply the noise removal, so any part of the clip where I'm not speaking will get 0 audio waves, which makes it easier for me to spot empty parts, so I can remove them without actually playing the clip.

This, however, proved to be a very taunting task, as I have to go through the entire clip, hitting cmd+B to cut the parts, and then removing all parts with no audio, so finally I would get a video where I'm always talking, and simply edit it that way.

Removing the empty parts of the clip takes 1 hour per 10 minutes! After which I only need less than an hour to finish the entire clip.

Automating this step will literally save me hours per clip, and would allow me to create 2-3 times the number of videos.

The question is:
Are there any tools/shortcuts that can automatically cut out the parts with no audio?

If not, I was thinking of writing a python code that simply goes through the clip, hitting cmd+B when it detects the start of an empty wave, and then cmd+B when a new wave is detected, and then it removes the part that was just cut.

But I thought, perhaps there's no need to reinvent the wheel!

I would appreciate any help :)

cmd-B? Do you 'cut' in FCPX with scissors…?
;)

when I did my weekly football reports, I had two clips a 50min I had to shorten to best-of 10-12min,
in the Browser, fingers on JKL, hammer 2x/3x on L to fasten playback, click I for beginning of a good one, O for out, left hand F to favorize, next.

Finally, select all favorites, E to apply to a Projects timeline = whole 90 min game cut in <20min

Your case even easier, cause you can edit 'by eye', watching the waveforms.....

… not aware of any automatism to delete parts of a clip below an audio threshold …

thanks for your answer..
That definitely seems much quicker than what I currently do :)
I'll start doing that..

Maybe at the same time I'll start writing a python machine learning code that automates this process, and then share it on GitHub.. But we'll see how that goes..

thanks again

Logic Pro X has a function to cut out quiet parts of a recording. And you can adjust a threshold. Why this isn't in FCPX when Apple already has the code is beyond me. So many things not shared between their own apps, it makes no sense.
