So I finally got the new iMac Pro set up. It's the base model. I imported 562, 4k video files from FS7, A7Sii, A7Rii, a few Phantom 4 Pro 4k files and some GoPro 2k files. All of of the FS7 footage is 60p shot in slog3 with embedded cinema 3 lut. The A7Sii and A7Rii is 24p. I was running leave files in place with the media folders, original files and library on a Thunderbolt 2, G Speed Shuttle XL 8 bay drive attached using an Apple Thunderbolt 3 converter.
I was pretty amazed by the speed.
It took 15 minutes to import the footage, create the wave forms and thumbnails.
It took 2h:40m to create the proxy files. I would have had to leave it overnight with my MacBook Pro. Pretty nice. I would test it out to ProPres 422, but I would need more room on my drive. There or 2TB of original files. The proxy files are 175GB. I imagine the ProRes 422 files would be about 10TB. I only have a about 10TB left on my raid so that will slow it down quite a bit. I'm running at about 900Mbs/R/W right now and it slows down bad when getting full.
Pretty happy with the iMac Pro so far.
