Im trying to sync video to audio, I have multiple camera angles I want to get lined up before I start editing what shots I want to go where but I can't line up the video to sync the audio perfectly because whenever I drag a video clip it will snap to a certain notch instead of me being able to just place it freely directly in line with the beat in the audio track ? Doesn't matter if im using the position tool or the standard selector.....what am I doing wrong ? Ive had this problem before but sometimes it works fine ?

Turn off snapping: support.apple.com/kb/PH26174?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
However if your goal is sync audio and video, creating a multicam clip and letting FCPX sync by waveform is often a good way. This is even for cases where a single video and multiple audio angles exist: www.fcpworks.com/sync-or-multicam-clips/
To create a proper multicam sync, it's necessary to label the angle or camera name of each batch of clips from each device, including audio recorders. You just select the entire group in the Event Browser, then in the Inspector, click the "i" button at top, select the "General" button at bottom and give each batch of clips an angle name or camera name. After that the multicam sync should work OK. For polyphonic wav files you only need do this for each file or group of files from a given recorder, not for each channel within the file.
For any clips which don't sync properly, you can open the MC clip and adjust the sync by sliding them left or right.

If snap is disabled, I don't know what's causing that.
This won't fix your current problem, but here's a low-cost app that might be of interest. I haven't used it but it looks interesting:
BeatMark X does extensive waveform analysis and automatically adds markers to help you edit to a music beat: www.fcp.co/final-cut-pro/news/2094-autom...-for-final-cut-pro-x

@SC1991
If snapping is disabled, you can move audio freely underneath video (relatively, see below), but not the other way around. That is, if you zoom in and try to cut video exactly on the pike of i.e. a cymbal, you will notice that the edit point is likely off. Visibly but not audibly. Because video has a fixed length of 1/24 s, and audio samples are much finer in comparison. The clip borders "snap" to the invisible grid of the 1/24 rhythm (also with connected clips). This has been driving people insane for decades. I don't want to insinuate that this is your issue, but if it is, your statement "it used to work in the past" shows that at these occasions you hadn't zoomed in too far.

Put another way, video clips can only be edited at the frame level (1 frame), but the audio can be edited in sub samples which are 1/80th of a frame. See this Apple document:

Have you experimented using the Position tool?
