Identifying a Text Effect (revealing text) was created by PhilCF
I'm trying to create the effect where text appears from behind an invisible line at some point in the frame.
I thought that I could do this with Masks, by just creating a mask and then keyframing the text to move out from behind it, but I am unable to do this as the X, Y, and Z inputs in the inspector under the "Text" menu are un-keyframable. I can only keyframe the entire wireframe, and that also moves the mask with the text.
Help! (PS - I can't yet use Motion
Thank you,
Phil

Duplicate the clip that you are keying the text over and stack it on top of the original. Place the text between the two clips and apply a mask to the top clip. Animating the text clip’s x position can then be done independently of the mask.
