How to trim multiple clips at once? 18 Jul 2018 21:13 #96406

Any way to do this? If i select two clips at once and trim them back, it only trims one of them
I've got a video track on my main storyline and an audio track connected below it. i want to be able to trim them both back on the ends of the clip, and also to be able to trim the end of the clip outward as well, so i can play with timing. |

Could you post a screen shot of the part of the project you are trying to trim?
Trying to understand what you are doing. If you have seperate audio and video, grab the end of video to shorten. Make sure “snapping” function is on, shorten audio same way till vertical alignment indicator shows. Maybe I’m not understanding. |

If you select both audio and video clips, then do CTRL+D, you can enter a positive or negative number of frames and all layers will be trimmed back or extended by that amount. You can also blade all layers with SHIFT+CMD+B. |

This helped! It's not exactly how I want to handle it, but it looks like this is the closest I can come to in FCPX. Didn't know that adding a + or - before entering the duration set would make it a trim instead of an actual duration length of the clip. But yea, the real thing i wish i could do, which i can do in premiere, is highlight the multiple clips, hover my mouse over the right edge of one of the clips until i get my trim tool to show up, click and drag out to extend the clip, or shorten the clip, and have it trim all highlighted clips at once. Right now, when you do that, it only trims one clip even if you have three or more selected. |

You can trim video to the right, but not audio. You start with the "upper track", move your playhead/skimmer to the point where you want to trim, then repeatedly type alt + right bracket. But joemas method is better.

You can also select multiple clips, video and/or audio, and trim/cut head or tail of all of them to the play head position by pressing option-left bracket or option-right bracket
