There are a few, depends on your needs. Just for yourself, or in a work group?

Kyno is very popular with many FCPX users.

I've not messed with these in years, but also Cantemo & CatDV are FCPX friendly, but I think Kyno is second best. My personal favorite is Keyflow Pro.

The charming thing about Kyno is that it doesn't import anything. It works as if it was part of Finder. In "drill down mode" it dives through folder structures and only shows media files, filtered by three general types: video, audio and stills.

Keyflow Pro, on the other hand, does import the media:

Now think about this: isn't FCP X the number ONE application to organize imported media? What's missing here? What do I possibly miss here? Drag & drop between applications instead of manually ex- and importing XMLs? So there.

If you don't need to transcode or subclip footage, then it seems Mojave offers some improvements to preview clips. Looks promising, but I am no beta tester, so I can't tell how useful this is in real life. I'd like to forgo Kyno.

I also find it better if it doesn't need to import media.
When you import you always add more duplicate media in another program.
Am I wrong?

I used to do a LOT of consulting, integration and training for Final Cut Server (if you're old enough to remember that). Media asset management these apps addresses is mostly geared towards large production facilities. Media is used across many different productions, many different folks work on one production needing to access that media together. FCPX is great for one or two people, but when you get to that size, it doesn't work well. Having all media for an organization on one centralized storage is one thing, but if you end up with literally hundreds of FCPX libraries, how will anyone find anything?

But for a single or dual person cottage, the smaller apps are great, if you need them at all.

KeyFlow Pro because it'a a Media Asset Manager. I have media across many drives going back many years and KFP catalogs everything so I can view previews and know which drive I need to mount to pull up older video.
I don't think Kyno is that kind of Asset Manager unless they've added that feature.

They're both digital media asset management systems (MAM or DAM, depending on who you talk to). Very exact copies of Final Cut Server, with more modern coding.

Then there's the financial side of things.

Plus KeyFlow Pro is cheaper, one time payment, $49.99 for a single user. Very clear on what you get for each level of purchase. The multiuser license starts at $149, and they'll quote you based on team size, I guess.

Kyno states, "No Subscription. Starts at $159." And yet further down that page, "Updates for another year $79." So it seems they do have an annual update subscription going. No info on how many users you get, or what the difference is between the two levels of purchase and update subscriptions.

If it's just you, KeyFlow Pro is the way to go for sure. When you take on more people working with you, you're obviously bringing in more money, and get a quote for your upgrade. Or switch, which ever you prefer.

Thanks.
Probably KeyFlow for me.
I will have to try it and see if I really need this.
My workflow is pretty good with FCX.
I would like to be able to add notes on clips in the browser. Multiple markers on a single clip.

You can add notes. Right-click any list view Browser column. Add or remove any column header you want. Namely, add the Notes column. Makes notes for a clip, a Favorite range, etc. M makes a marker, and you can make them Generic, To-Do List, or Chapter markers.

For some reason I was using only the notes and they only apply to a whole clip.
Markers work fine as you said they can be applied everywhere.

Didn't see that one.

Thanks.

Ranges marked as keywords can have their own notes. Ranges tagged as Favorite or Rejected can have their own notes, AND be renamed.
