Your screen caps show one image in the FCPX viewer and the other in Resolve. Those are different viewers. There are cases where the same video file shows different gamma if viewed by Quicktime vs VLC.

You need to export the file from FCPX then export the file using the same settings from Compressor, then view them both in Quicktime on the same machine, then post a screen cap of those if different.

If the file appears the same when viewed that way and is only different when viewed by Resolve, VLC or some other viewer, the cause is likely the playback method. If the FCPX and Compressor-exported files look different when viewed by Quicktime Player 10 on the same machine, maybe it's something with Compressor. In that case list all the file characteristics of each file as viewed by Invisor or Media Info.

They are screen capture from Resolve, one being edited in FCPX, the other being transcoded in Compressor. Yes, it is confusing. But those are FCPX and Compressor screens. Took me a long time to figure it out, since the WHOLE SCREEN wasn't included, just a tiny segment.

And Compressor is not meant to be color accurate, just to give you rough representation. It doesn't edit, it just transcodes.

ColorSync isn't a problem, works great for me. I produce for TV broadcast and don't need a broadcast monitor to get my colors correct and safe. Not sure what Resolves uses to calibrate monitor colors. But then, ColorSync only works on Apple monitors. I don't think LG monitors support ColorSync, at least that I'm aware of.

if you need color accuracy at that level, you really need to use and SDI broadcast monitor.

thank you for your reply, I use iMac Pro Display to screen capture. As if FCPX/Motion/Youtube/ quicktime 10 use gamma 2.2, VLC/DAVINCI/COMPRESSOR use REC709 gamma 2.4(or Did Compressor not support colorsync?). use different gamma, so it show different view result.

What is your source file? Is it a camera file or was it encoded by another app? Do you have a short clip we could download and examine?

I just exported some 4k H264 interview files from a Sony A7RIII in both FCPX 10.4.3 and Compressor 4.4.1 as both 1080p H264 and as ProRes 422. They don't look any different when viewed using Quick Look, Quicktime Player 10, Quicktime Player 7.6.6 or when uploaded to Youtube and viewed in either Safari 11.1.1 or Chrome 67.0.3396.99. This is on a 2017 iMac 27, macOS 10.13.5 with screen calibrated with X-Rite i1DisplayPro. However I don't think any of this involves screens or screen calibration since they involve the look of different files using different playback methods on the same screen.

The files I rendered have a different gamma appearance if played in VLC 3.0.3 -- whether the file was encoded by FCPX *or* Compressor. To make VLC look like Quicktime Player or Youtube playback via Safari or Chrome, it's necessary to set VLC preferences to Pure power gamma 2.8. This is in VLC preferences, show all>video>output modules>Mac OS X>Display gamma. This shows how the playback method can affect the appearance.

Likewise if you are dealing with a file you encoded, the encoding method and how metadata was handled could affect various playback methods. E.g, I think Resolve has a setting for encode as video or as data, or something like that. If some metadata field in the video header that defines color space or gamma is not set properly it could affect the color or gamma look of certain playback methods.

If you can specify the exact steps, file type, file origin and pedigree, Compressor preset, and viewing method, we can examine it further. However if there was a significant gamma issue between Compressor and FCPX, I think we'd already know about it.

Thanks, joema. I wasn't aware of that. Be it as it may, following your advice, QTPlayer still appears a tiny bit darker (but better) than VLC (iMac5k late 2015, display profile "iMac").

And apart from that, I am always disappointed or even shocked when I see a video of mine elsewhere. The only exception are mobile devices. Funny, but I like my stuff best on iPads.
