Hi,

please help me with below solution.

- On one of the drives, I have FCPX library (Neha weds Akash) in which, I have 4 days of events from a wedding, All the footage under these events are already done favourite selection.

- The Library is being used by a MAC on which work from day 2 is going on currently.

- Can I rename the library "Neha weds Akash" to "Neha weds Akash_2nd copy" to a folder next to it and open it on a 2nd Mac and then work on files by relinking it.., Will FCPX allow to do that, Want to do it becasue, as all files in main library Neha weds Akash are already favourite and it will help me to make a edit fast.

plz help

You can duplicate the library, rename it, move it where ever you want, as long as both Libraries are working on the same Mac. You can even place them on different hard drives (not necessary), if they're connected to the same Mac.

If you want that Library to be on a different Mac, then before duplicating, you need to select the Library in the Browser, go to the Inspector, and look at the Storage Locations section. Click the "Modify Settings" and make sure Media, Motion Content and Cache are all set to Library. Then click OK. Next copy the Library to a portable drive to take to the new Mac. No need to rename anything or "duplicate" it, just copy it as is to a drive, take that to the new Mac. Once work on the second Mac is done, export that Project timeline as XML, bring it back to the first Mac.

But I'm not sure how that makes editing easier, as you still have the exact same Event/Keyword structure. That totally baffles me, and makes me very curious as to why you say this would make editing easier. Unless you have a second editor working with you.

Thanks dear,

Let me try and get back.
Doing it because as we have two editors who can then work on same library and 2nd editor doesn't have to look at all the footage again, he will only look into the fav footage that already been marked in first library.

Is there one set of media on a network shared drive or two different sets of media, one local to each Mac? In the network case there are various issues unique to that.

If each Mac has its own media you can just copy over the library to the 2nd one and relink if necessary.

You can also merge the favorites from one event to a 2nd version of that event on a different machine using the utility MergeX. However it requires all projects be in a separate event, not the event with the media: www.merge.software

Also due to a bug in FCPX XML processing, all media filenames should be unique, else loading an XML may create spurious duplicate clips . This isn't unique to MergeX but can happen anytime you load an event or library XML and the original filenames are not unique, despite being in separate folders.

Yes, with two editors, this is how you'd do it. When the 2nd editor is done, they only need to export their Project timeline as an XML file, import that back into the original, done! In this manner, you can get rid of the second library when your finished.

My question is simpler, but as it is more or less the same topic, I thought I would ask here.

I created a Library on my MacBook Pro, called MBP, of a field recording session. After closing the library, I copied it to my iMac Pro and worked on it. All is well and the library contains all source. I would now like to rename it to something meaningful. With FCPX closed, can I just rename it in Finder, without impacting the edits? The library would remain in the same folder and nothing would change, only the name of the library.

I expect this to work, but would like confirmation before doing it. - Thanks.

Yes, the library can be renamed in Finder. It won't change anything internal or disturb a project or clip.
