Problem with Multi-Cam Audio "Popping"

Problem with Multi-Cam Audio "Popping" was created by fwcommish
1st post here, so please bear with me. I'm running FCPX 10.4.2 on a Late 2012 27-Inch iMac with 16 GBs of RAM. My problem is that when I change camera angles on my multi-cam shoots, I hear a loud "pop" every time I switch angles. I do apply a custom -12db effect prior to the edit because I do upload my videos to a mid-major web broadcaster & don't want people to lose they're hearing. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If you're doing a video-only camera angle cut, I don't know why it would pop. However, I have seen discussions of multicam audio pops when making video-only cuts. A possible solution is expand the audio and extend it under the multicam video lane. This is discussed and illustrated here:
www.fcp.co/forum/4-final-cut-pro-x-fcpx/...s-a-slight-click-pop
If you are switching both audio and video, a pop can be normal due to waveform mismatch on either side of the cut. In that case the solution is apply a short audio fade. You adjust the default audio transition in FCPX>Preferences>Editing>Default Fade Duration.
To apply this you select one or more clips, then pick Modify>Adjust Volume>Apply Fades.
You can likewise remove audio fades from a bunch of clips in one step.
There's no pre-programmed shortcut key but you can easily make one using the command editor.
These and other audio editing tips are in MacBreak Studio #387:

The problem is that even when you do a video only cut FCP STILL cutss the audio. Even if the audio is a through edit there’s still a cut on what is probably not a zero crossing point in the waveform. You often hear a click at the point. Still best to work with expanded or detached audio to avoid this. PITA.

Well, if you only want to cut video, and not the audio, you can switch that in the Angle Viewer.

No, the problem is even if you do a video only edit, FCP still makes a cut in the audio. It’s a through edit, both sides are the same, but it’s still a cut. Of course to make matters worse, if you applied an effect, it changes the effect. This is really bullshit, but it’s been going on since 10.0.3.

Thank you all for the help... Looks like I'm SOL until an update fixes it then?

You are not SOL, you just need to apply fades as Joema said.
Pops are caused by cutting audio when the waveform is not crossing 0 point. Digital is unforgiving. Pops will occur.
Expand audio (I don't recommend detaching), overlap audio portion of clips (if needed), apply fades top and tail, no worries. Applying fades without overlapping the audio may produce some unwanted audio level fluctuations, but this really depends on material. Overlapping allows you to control overall levels blended between clips. Really only needed when no pause in audio. Simply extending the audio portion of cut to a pause will also clear out pops.
No pop audio cuts would be a good feature request for Apple via feedback. It could be coded that audio cuts only occur at 0 potential of waveform. Audio editing is subframe so would not really affect cuts if slight overlap is made on each audio portion of clip.
STP had a pop/clipping indicator marker to help find the problem. Would be nice if FCPX did this instead of relying on meters or wave form.
LPX handles this much better and easier to do cuts without pops. Then again, it is a DAW.
Hope this Helps, Greg

I might need to expand a little on what I'm doing... I'm cutting a Lucha Libre (Mexican Pro Wrestling) show & have the audio from 1 camera set as dual mono (it has two audio inputs with 1 being the commentary & 1 being the crowd sounds) & 1 camera set to stereo, which picks up crowd sounds & the luchador's (Wrestlers) slams & other sounds. Is there a demo of Logic Pro X? I really don't have the money right now to pay for it outright because of my high electric bills right now (it is summer in Texas, after all, lol). Or would it help to set all cameras to dual mono?

Tried the "fade" technique with the fade set at .01 seconds & it works! Thank you guys so much!
