From the initial info that has been released on closed captioning, might this feature also be used for "subtitles?" Maybe the distinction between the two is somewhat blurred, but say in feature films -- when watching a subtitled presentation, the translation is usually white letters with a black outline, maybe a drop shadow, superimposed at the bottom of the screen. No surrounding black box to encapsulate the text...where as with closed captioning, the black box containing text seems to be the standard default. And perhaps that is a broadcast requirement.

But I am wondering if the closed captioning feature could be customizable enough that it could be used for "subtitles?"

May be too early to ask the question, but would like to hear other opinions on this.

Last evening before NAB. My last speculations.

Won't stop there. The Pocket 4k will have ProRes Raw, Resolve 15 will have it. There's a 5" Ninja called "Ninja V". Captures ProRes Raw, but doesn't have SDI.

Yet, it's meant to be used with mirrorless cameras ...

Could be much more than just a lighter raw format for a handful of expensive cameras.

Hmm, but the camera must output raw data for the recorder to record ProRes RAW, no?

Obviously. There must be new cameras . Allegedly the Sony A7Siii, who knows? But that'd be ONE. This is what Panasonics Mitch Gross said (re-posted link from dvxuser):
"So if you were to build a device with RAW output over HDMI, you would likely also have to build the device on the other end. And if you are going to do that, you are going to be spending a lot of time and money to make this system work, and it will all be a technical cheat and jumping through a lot of hoops in order to make it work with the limiting factors of the signal path that must be adhered to in order to remain HDMI-compliant ... so short answer is yes it is technicaly possible to send RAW over HDMI."

Could there be official firmware updates? Unlikely. Could there be hacks? I certainly hope so. Even if that meant my camera got bricked for every normal operation (LongGop 8-bit instant stock) by that hack ...
