please no fruitless debate who copied whom
For NAB Adobe as added features to its suite of apps
news.adobe.com/press-release/creative-cl...ves-thrive-video-age
… a few caught my attention…
• PP now offers a Color Automatch… AI-driven - whatever that means. For us FCusers: including a split view option, masking skin-tones, and the adjustments reflect in the color-wheels settings…
• a Broadcast-Safe filter… hu? 'new'?
• AutoDucking… that is on 'our list' for quiet a while too…
• several 360°-stuff… not my domain …
• Master Properties in AE… charming idea, when your 123 custom made plugins have to be changed to the companies new font…
• Character Animator/Puppeteer Engine… Animoji in Motion??
• a Particle System "which reacts with objects"… okayyy, would love to see 'physics' in Motion too…
• … and lots of other stuff, I'm too dumb to understand …
Interesting, I'd say…

Those are all nice UI-facing improvements. The previous version had some collaborative editing features but I haven't examined those.
If they ever support Quick Sync on Mac that might prevent them from being 2x to 5x slower than FCPX at H264 decode and encode.

The Canon C200 users seem pretty pleased that Canon RAW Light format is now supported. I understand FCPX 10.4 does that too.

It's best to copy from the best - or invent something new and radically better. I know what you mean by 'fruitless debates'. It's inevitable to make some comparison to the copies at hand though.
This description lets my imagination run wild. AI-driven ... - are we there yet? I remember all those nights spent with rotoscoping, and I thought, do I really have to do this? This is so dumb. Are computers really not smart enough to finally learn: > this is an object >those are it's outlines, they change over time ?
Then, years ago, AAE brought the roto brush. When it was announced I thought, YES!, they've got it. Then I tried it, and I returned to earth. It is helpful, but it's also limited - because it obviously doesn't recognize the objects. Not a smart tool.
Let's watch what Color Automatch actually looks like:
There may be intelligence involved, I couldn't tell, but I wouldn't ask for it either for such a task. Looks pretty much like FCPs match tool. Which I tried once or twice but never used since. Not because it's so bad, but because I feel I'm better.
We are not there yet. And now follows my old rant against adding half-baked features. It was overdue for Adobe to integrate a modern approach to color into PP, and they did with Lumetri. It was a BIG improvement. The traditional CC tools had already been used by the Flintstones. It was necessary, but not genius, not the big strike. What we see in this update is little else than Adobes routine of adding features, without elegance, without smart integration, without intelligence, without much profit in terms of user experience. This is an Apple site, so people probably won't be too upset.
But FCP X's color is worse. It's a mess. If you have, say, *just* a hundred clips in your timeline, and they need more than just the most basic correction, then you come to hate 10.4! I'm not talking about bugs, I'm talking about a sensible workflow.
