.mxf import problem: FCPX messes up dominant field order on interlaced files was created by lietsche
Hello,
I am having a weird problem. When importing interlaced .mxf files they become "progressive" after importing even though in the inspector settings the file is recognised as a 1080i25 file with top field dominance (as it should be).
When I check via my preview TV with Blackmagic Ultra Studio mini monitor I can clearly see that the file is handled progressive instead of interlaced.
When I force an override in the settings and change them to "progressive" the file gets displayed interlaced in the viewer. When adding this file to an 1080i25 timeline, the the field oder is getting messed up and stutters, as if the field order would be the opposite. When I change again the field order in the setting it gets displayed progressive.
My workaround for the moment is to transcode the files via compressor to Apple ProRes. When importing the Apple ProRes everything is fine.
I double-checked the .mxf file in DaVinci Resolve and there it gets imported correctly so it seems it is a bug within FCPX.
Any idea how to solve this please? I reinstalled the ProVideo Formats Codecs 2.0.6, but it did not help.
Many thanks in advance!
FCPX 10.4 on 10.13.3 on a late 2016 MBP, 16GB RAM, Radeon Pro 460

PAL MXFs are broken in the way you describe in 10.4, see
this thread
.
Report to Apple using the feedback menu item. Hopefully this will get fixed in the next update, until then your stuck using your transcoding workaround, or going back to an earlier version of FCPX.

OUCH.
Thanks so much for this info.
Can I trust Compressor to transcode from an Apple Pores HQ Master 1080i50 to an AVC INTRA 100 1080i50 .mxf for broadcast delivery?

I believe you'll be fine if you do it that way. Check final output in Resolve to be sure.

OK thanks,
yes, I already did that and it looks OK.
I just sent the Feedback Bug report to Apple. Hope this will get fixed soon.
