Audio Dropping At End of a Clip was created by cyuill2015
I am using FCPX 10.4 on a mid-2014 15" MacBook Pro. OS is 10.13.3.
When importing some clips into FCPX 10.4 the audio is strangely silent for the last 1 to 2 seconds of the clip. This doesn't always happen when importing a clip, but does happen often enough to annoy me. The sound is clearly there when I play the original clip in Quicktime Player. But when playing back in FCPX, both in the browser and in the timeline, the audio cannot be heard for the last second or two. This occurs even when audio waveforms appear in the clip when it is in the timeline.
I do notice, however, when looking at the Audio Configuration in the audio inspector that there are two Dialog-1 waveforms, one below the other. The top waveform has Stereo. I also notice that the length of the waveforms is not always the same. Either the top or the bottom one will be slightly truncated on the right end.
Any ideas how to fix this annoying problem? I didn't have this issue before.
EDIT: I probably should also mention that the files I have been importing are .mov files, with H.264 and AAC codecs.

Sound like a hardware playback issue. What Mac model/year/specs?

As mentioned earlier, I am using a mid-2014 15" MacBook Pro, i7 CPU, 16 GB of RAM, Iris Pro video controller. FCPX version is 10.4, and macOS version is 10/13.3.
Slow hardware makes sense if the audio was dropping at different spots randomly. But it drops at exactly the same spot every time. This is an import problem
I can sometimes prevent this end-of-clip audio dropping. The last time I did this by duplicating the file, renaming it, then importing so that the media is optimized and the file left in place. (I usually copy the file into the library.) I then re-imported, copying the original file into the library this time. For some reason the full audio is there.
I might try transcoding files into the ProRes format before importing into FCPX and see if that will yield more-satisfactory audio results.

Is all of this on your system drive, or do you have a secondary drive (as you should) for your Libraries and media?
Converting to ProRes will eat up a lot of drive space. Simply make Proxy Media instead.
