How to get rid of unused media in a library? was created by drewchilli
Hello guys. I've got such a task. I have a very long footages in a library and I don't need them all, just some episodes from them. So I would like to cut what I need and get rid of the rest of media to clear some space on my SSD. What's the best way to do that in FCPX? Thank you.

Of course you can manually delete unused clips - whole clips! - from the library: right-click >move to trash (empty trash then of course).
But I understand you are talking about small selections out of long clips. You want something like smart rendered copies of your selection and then have these automatically replaced. FCP can't do that by it's own devices.
It can do this during import (that is, if you allow to copy files). You can import multiple snippets of one (also interframe-coded) clip, and (check through right-click >reveal in Finder) they get wrapped in their individual movs. But the horse has already left the barn, I gather.
Then your only chance is to make a consolidated copy that only contains used footage. Again, using FCP for that would result in whole clips. You might check Work 4x (no own experiences).
Why I don't really care: one day I came to the conclusion that I never ever want to worry about disk space again, and I bought enough of it.
