10.4 Slow Import Problem

10.4 Slow Import Problem was created by Finbo
I’m aware that some of us have been experiencing much slower import times since updating to 10.4.
In the absence of a 10.4.1 update to fix the problem, can anything be done?
My import times with sxs or sd cards are virtually real time at the moment which is a real pain.

Good question. I'm getting slow imports with C300 MkII footage, say 20-30 MB/s whereas it used to max out the speed of my hard drives.

Same problem here in France after I installed 10.4 on two maxed-out iMacs 5k ( one gen. in between them ).
Also using the Canon flavoured MXF container with an mpeg2 50Mbps codec inside.
AVCHD imports are also way slower. No optimized ProRes files requested, only native files used in a fast news environment.
If others could please come forward to confirm or infirm any import slow down with whatever format they work, that could clarifiy the situation around 10.4 and lead to look for possible solutions and/or put some weight on a feedback message.
Hope that some Apple nerds know what Ten-Four means

No real workaround here ...
Had the "immense pleasure" to revert to 10.3.4 three 5k iMacs and an old MBP, all still under Sierra. Got back the regular short ingest delays for mxf files on CF cards and therefore lost those nice new CC boards.
Canon's 3.2 plugin from last December didn't help a bit.
Besides sending feedback and bug reports, there is only one thing we can do and that's good old waiting, Apple style.
xx.x.0 versions are never satisfying nor smooth operating builds, after all, users are willing guinea pigs, that's part of the equation, everywhere.
Always good to zip older versions and keep them ready to jump back in action, when a new version is becoming a deal breaker. Be aware of the consequences of library updates, keep older versions compatible copies if possible.

I do have a zipped file of 10.3.4 in a folder on a hard drive.
To be honest, I've never had to do this before.
Is there a strict procedure to follow?
Thanks

Before you move the unzipped old version back to the Application Folder, add something like "old" or "10.3.4" after the name.
Just avoid having both versions open at the same time
You might get some quirks with your workspace, I've seen the Audio Level Meter disappear, just recall it then.
And be cautious with your updated/non-updated libraries.
If you double-click a library to open FCPX, be aware that 10.4 might have become your default app.
So, for your "old" libraries, it's better to open them with an already active 10.3.4 FCPX.
And there is no way to un-upgrade or roll back an updated library.
Hope that helps ..... and be patient. That's Apple's name of the game. Be patient.

I was just thinking it may be best to delete 10.4 altogether to avoid any confusion?
I don't have anything on 10.4 that needs to be saved - that's already been done.
if I do delete 10.4, should I trash preferences first before dragging FCPX to the trash can?
Thanks

Trashing 10.4 makes sense, when a cleaner version comes up, you'll anyway have to download it from the store.
Trashing prefs is also OK, you can easily rebuild your prefs.
Before or after killing 10.4 ? The preferences are in a file that both versions would have shared. So it could be either way.

Realised that the zipped older version I have in a folder is 10.2 not 10.3.
Yes, it imports at the correct speed, but it doesn't have the mxf multi-track export setting or the much better roles features that I use a lot - so not ideal.
I would have hoped that an updated 10.4.1 would have been rolled out by now!
