Narration-driven project: where to place the audio? was created by tpf1952
I'm about to start post production on a long (45-minute) research procedure. This is the first time I've paused to consider where to place my audio for narration. Before I get too far out on a limb, I'd welcome suggestions.
For reasons that don't bear discussion here, final narration was recorded before acquiring any footage. My job is to conform images to narration. Roughly half the images come from silent footage just acquired in a laboratory; the rest from visuals that I will create in Apple Motion and export as Pro Res footage back to FCPX. This footage will consist of combinations of text, graphics and still frames.
Till now, virtually all of my projects have been based on video clips with audio (interviews) in the primary story line. Is there any reason why I should not place my narration clips (audio only) in the primary storyline and build all my video as a series of secondaries? The number of individual audio clips is roughly 40 and spans about 35 minutes. Thanks in advance for your suggestions, and apologies in advance for my ignorance.

The Primary Storyline is the backbone of your story, the core. So yes, if the narration is the core, it goes in the Primary Storyline. I do this a lot with TV commercials that are a VO and mostly cutaways. VO and talking head shots edited in the Primary Storyline for pacing first. Then add the B-Roll.
